Decoding IP ratings

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating tells you what a fixture can survive. The first digit is solids (dust), the second is liquids. IP20 is interior-only — no protection against water. IP54 handles splashes and damp locations. IP65 is dust-tight and resists water jets, suitable for genuinely wet and outdoor exposure. Matching the rating to the environment is not optional — it is the difference between a five-year install and a callback.

Humidity and heat are the silent killers
